RESIDENT CARETAKER - Recruiting for this position is on the fast tract.
Job Description:
Responsible for the daily caretaking of the Lodge, out-buildings and grounds with attention to local Board of Health requirements;
Supervise and coordinate 2-3 Caretaker Interns and volunteers to assist with Caretaker tasks;
Prepare the Lodge and out-buildings in advance of incoming programs;
Ensure lodge utilities are in good working condition including solar system, generator, hot water, wood stoves and lighting;
Greet, orient, and instruct program leaders and guests in lodge, facilities and grounds use;
Follow-up caretaking of facilities including laundry, take-down of tents and general clean-up;
Manage seasonal responsibilities, including driveway maintenance, water control and mowing;
Stewardship of grounds, trails, teaching stations and sacred sites;
Coordinate monthly Caretaker work schedule with supervisor;
Work alongside Program Coordinator to ensure smooth organizational functioning;
Weekends – Certain weekends during the summer & fall, the Caretaker will be required to stay on site and be available for program or event needs.
Dates & Length of Stay:
May 1st (or early May) to October 31, 2011. Six-month commitment required. Dates are flexible to accommodate college/university schedules.
Hours:
30-35 hours per week, where the daily schedule varies according to upcoming programs and the needs of the facilities, land and gardens.
Remuneration & Benefits:
Lodging in the private wood-heated Heart Space cabin.
Monthly Wage & Food Stipend of $700.
Shared use of food produce from gardens.
Use of office space with phone and internet access.
Encouraged to participate in selected educational programming without charge.
Participate in the community life at Earthlands – potlucks, circles & gatherings.

INTERNS & APPRENTICES
Positions Available:
Earthlands offers interns and apprentices the opportunity to participate in ecological living through work-based community experiences. All interns and apprentices will assist the Earthlands’ Caretaker with the maintenance and upkeep of the lodge, grounds, and facilities. Caretaker tasks in preparation for and service to incoming programs and events take priority over all other tasks and responsibilities of interns and apprentices.
1. Permaculture/Organic Gardener Apprenticeship
Number of Positions Open: 2
Permaculture Apprentices will gain hands-on experience participating in planting, cultivating, and harvesting food crops from our expanding organic gardens. While priority is given to Caretaker tasks, they will concentrate remaining work-time with direction from our Garden Manager. Interns & apprentices are invited to participate in many of Earthlands’ created workshops and classes offered during their stay.
2. Non-profit Management & Operations
Number of Positions Open: 1
This apprentice will work directly with the Executive Director on task and projects related to promoting and marketing Earthlands, public outreach and office operations. A preference will be given to those with web design. Photoshop and other media content background experience. While priority is given to Caretaker tasks, this position will concentrate remaining work-time with management and operations. Interns & apprentices are invited to participate in many of Earthlands’ created workshops and classes offered during their stay.
Dates & Length of Stay:
The positions are open from May 1st through October 31st. Dates are flexible to accommodate college/university schedules. We are seeking two applicants that can commit for 5-6 months, and one applicant who can serve from May through August.
Hours:
25 hours per week, where the daily schedule varies according to upcoming programs and the needs of the facilities, land and gardens.
Remuneration & Benefits:
Free lodging or campsite.
Monthly Food Stipend of $150.
Shared use of food produce from gardens.
Use of office space with phone and internet access.
Invitation to participate in Earthlands-created workshops and classes.
Participate in the community life at Earthlands – potlucks, circles & gatherings.

Join our community of earth people for a season on the land, learning and practicing sustainable living skills that honor nature and self.
The Program and Retreat Center has several activities that require many hands to make it a success. Our main season of program activites and events are from May through October. Our on-site community of staff, interns and members ranges from 6-12 people during this time. We are always interested in having qualified and motivated interns assist with completing the many tasks associated with running an education and retreat center.

Earthlands Internships
Internships are primarily focused on the day-to-day needs of running the Program and Retreat Center.
